Staropramen is the beer that Jan Kohout and Vilem Pick made with special varieties of barley, yeast, and authentic Saaz hops. First established in the Smíchov neighbourhood of Prague in 1869, the brewery known as "the pit" grew to become the largest in Czechoslovakia in 1933 following significant modernisation.
